Jessica Lochan-Jenkinson is a second-generation Trinidadian born and residing in London.
Motivated by the lack of awareness surrounding Indo-Caribbean history and culture in the UK,and her ancestral ties to the Indian indenture system, she seeks to spotlight the underrepresented stories of this marginalised South Asian diaspora.
Collaborating with US-based photographer Tony Cox II, also a second-generation Trinidadian - who collects archival postcards and other artefacts documenting the Indian indenture system, we hope to converge our research and visual materials, uncovering stories that have traditionally been communicated from archaic and racist colonial perspectives. As descendants of the Indian indenture system, we aim to rewrite our ancestral history that is critical of the colonial gaze.
